Another trany question

On my 7016 (1978 model) the manual says to drive the axle tube bearings in till they are flush on the inside, it also says they should be flush with the counter bore within the bearing houseing. The bearings in my trany are not wide enough to be flush with both. Now, someone could have replaced these bearings in my trany with new ones that weren't the correct ones but I want to be sure I am understanding the manual correctly. If they are to be flush with both the inside and the counter bore then I will order new bearings. Thanks again all. This has got to be the best site in the computer world, at least my computer world.

HI, That should have the big needle bearings. Off hand, I don't know the width., Seems like they would be 7/8 to 1" wide. I wouldn't worry about the flush thing, but would look closely at the play the axle has. Needle bearings usually aren't that tight, but the outer race wears and the clearance increases. The needles seldom show wear, but the bearings get loose from wear in the outer race. Al Eden
