No spark...

....on the 6 HP Briggs on my newly aquired Wonderboy. The thing is,it had spark, but wouldn't stay running because of carb problems. I pulled the carb, rebuilt it,reinstalled it,and now it has no spark. Coincidence? Or does the governor linkage have something to do with spark? That's the only thing I can figure. Thanks!

Ken, Most small Briggs engines have a "kill" switch on the carburetor linkage that the kill wire attaches to. I suspect the kill wire is not hooked up and is shorted to ground. Look for a loose wire around the end of the carburetor opposite the choke end. My thoughts,

I would tend to agree w/ Roy on the shorted ground wire or something you moved while haveing the carb. or shroud off. The govn. has nothing to do w/ the ign. but it is in close procintity to the coil and other wires. It's also possible the points have oil or moister on them and while you had the carb. off they got gummed up.

There is the kill switch you mention, but it looks like it hasn't had any wire on it for a while. I'll look around for any loose wires.
