This is the Bg Ten the boys bought with the tiller and weed mower for $250. I was born in 1966 and this Big Ten was made in 1966. I told the boys I'd buy the tractor from them for $150. Catch is that if they agreed to it I would supply all the parts and paint , but they would do all the work refurbishing it for me to keep. Seems they have a mind to do it, so I may have a Foot Dragger to play with. Only thing is I'm going to do some engine swapping. Got a good 16 hp sitting on the shelf that may get a yellow paint job. If so, I'll be sneaky and have them put the 10 HP shroud on back on it though.:D

Nothing like a good FDT. I still prefer doing just about anything with the B110 over the RBT's, particularly because of the short wheelbase, only thing I don't like about the short wheelbase is its harder to get the deck removed.

I too like the fdt's because of there design.

I'll go along with that;) Everyone should have at least one Foot Dragger ...so they can periodically remind themselves of why they prefer RBT's:D

I grew up using a FDT from age 10 or so until I was in my 30's. I never liked the hassle it was to remove the mower deck, used to fire up the old B-10 and back it off the deck when the blades needed sharpening. However, for winter snow plowing chores, I loved putting it into reverse and if the wheels spun I'd put my feet down, hang onto the steering wheel, and apply additional "reverse power". Never failed to get the machine moving. Needless to say I developed this technique in my late teens, when the machine and I worked "as one." Since moving south in '93 I acquired an RBT and since I mainly cut grass with it (and the mower's much easier to remove)I like it just fine. Just missed an eBay auction for one of each in NC! There's plenty of room in my shed for tractor diversity! Brian

I bought a brand new B-12 when I was 13 and went into the snow plow, lawn mowing business. I used the same trick as Brian when I needed a little extra push on the blower or blade. That was untill the cross bars on the chains caught my pants, tore up my leg, pulled me off the tractor and under the wheel. Lucky thing it spit me out the back and didn't sit there and grind my leg up. So now days it the RBT's for me as even after 40 years that day is still fresh in my mind. John

I don't think I'd be using my legs to help get the thing going. I mainly like the short wheelbase FDT's because they seem to get better traction and have better maneuverability in tight spots. They seem to work the best for grading, especially with a manual lift. Also since they are shorter, they take up less space overall.

Sam , in this case FDT stands for Found Dad a Tractor. That's great that your kids are working with you, and making those special memories. All to soon they are grown up and out on their own.

Guess I'll have to wait for another Big Ten.. Youngest boy was all for the idea, but the oldest thinks he has to have it. Actually this whole offer of mine was to try and teach some priorities. The oldest thinks he has to have EVERYTHING that comes along out here. . Problem is he talks all the time about driving when he gets his license in October. HE is spending all his money on stuff that he already has one of to work with. He's not got any money to pay for insurance and no money to fix his truch that sits out hereneeding tune up , brakes etc etc. Guess he chooses to learn the hard way when its license time...
