PhanDad Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 I've noticed that after every mowing with my "16GTH-L", the inlet screen for the Sunstrand cooling fan is blinded with cut grass. After engine shutdown, the grass can be easily removed with your hand or air, the grass isn't packed in the screen tightly, just laying across the screen blocking air flow. I don't have this problem with my Homelite with Vickers; although the hydro fluid cooler does need cleaning a couple times a year. Is this typical of the Sunstrand? Seems there's lots of grass clippings available under the frame of the tractor. But the inlet screen of the Briggs doesn't collect grass even though the original KT17 engine failure was caused in part by a fowled inlet screen. I'm running the deck at maximum height with Gator blades, but don't see how this would matter. The Sunstrand screen is coarser than the Briggs screen, would a finer mesh screen help?
RayS Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 I have the same problem. I just blow the grass out with a air nozzel from time to time.
SimpleMan Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 Have the same problem on my 1998 Sovereign, as did my dad on his 1984 917H. I just turn everything off, and wipe it off with my hands.
maxtorman1234 Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 Happens all the time, especially since the screen is different on the newer models
2burning Posted July 22, 2005 Posted July 22, 2005 I have that too on my newer machine. I just brush the grass off after each use. My older 7016H class machine only has a few sheet metal grills across it, so it does not collect gress on the screen like the newer ones. It just collects grass inside on the squirrel cage fins :>
Paul_B Posted July 23, 2005 Posted July 23, 2005 Mine does that too. I just pull off what has accumulated with my hands. No big deal.
