Limited Slip rear end

I was watching my rear wheels the other day and saw that one would spin while the other did nothing and I just sat still. I thought I had the limited slip rear end (can't spell differential) in my AC712 so I checked the two small bolts on the right rear axle. I put a lot of heft on them in both directions and could not move them. I was scared to force them with a longer wrench. The book says 25 ft lbs but I did not get my torque wrench out because I knew I had already exceeded that and did not turn them. Can someone enlighten me on what I should do? Do I just put all I got on them and try to back them out or try to tighten them up?? Should I just leave well enough alone?? Dan

Dan, I have only had one of the old type rears, with the bolts. My bolts turned very easily. They are nothing more than lug bolts for the rear wheels. They push on a pad that puts friction on the axle shaft. If yours are not turning, then the must be rusted in the hub. I would try some penetrating oil on them and let it sit overnight. Then try to loosen them. They should come right out, once the threads are broken loose.

I thought the 700/900 series had diff. vertions of the limited slip. Therefor they didn't have the 2 slippage bolts.

Could be that you are trying to turn the two 5/16" set screws in the axle collar. The 712 shouldn't have the adjustment bolts for the limited slip.

Well, live and learn:I I read the large frame service and repair manual and assumed it applied to all 7000/700 series, but, guess not. I was trying to turn the 5/16th bolts on the axle:o) What a clown I amxx( SOoo my 712 does not have a limited slip ? ? ? or what??? Dan

Sorry about the misinformation. For some reason when Dan was talking about the screws, I was thinking Simp 700, not AC712. Should have caught it myself.
