Sink motor

First off I'm back from Texas, While I was ther had my daughter mow lawn. It must have been long and wet, because she plugged up deck boot.I had grass trails all over yard. Went out to mow and vacuum. Kohler Magnum 20, did not start up the way it usually does. Made it half way around house and it stopped. Oil level was up, but did not like sound of it when I tried to restart. The only way I could get it started was to cover end of breather tube in air cleaner. After reading a post by someone who flooded their engine with gas while it was sitting, I had installed fuel shut off valve, daughter had not shut it off when she finished lawn. I drained oil and replaced with 30 weight. It started right up and seems to run well. Will see in two days when i mow again. Ever since I put motor in, it sometimes gives a puff of blue smoke(oil) and ther is a film of oil in aircleaner. Would this indicate a plugged breather/ And if so is it located on motor on other end of small hose that goes to aircleaner?

I'd think if there is some oil from the crank-case on the filter then the breather wouldn't be plugged. Plus, after haveing some gas in the oil the breather should be clean now. I'd say the puff on startup would be a little oil left in the cyl. from sligtly worn rings or worn valve guides. However the breather is on the opposite end of the tube going into the air cleaner. BTW, welcome back from T. Hope you had a great time.
