JamesK Posted August 20, 2005 Posted August 20, 2005 well I was out with the family toolin around by scranton. There is this AC 720 i have been watching. well today the guy who lives there was outside so I stopped. This is what I found out. its a 720 with 5 1/2 ft mower deck, front plow, and rear tiller. says it did run but starter is cracked on the front nose. The hyd ift has up and down pressure (not sure if this is normal or optional) and he has all manuals for it. Now I know its only worth what your willing to pay. But I usually only see folks asking about the smaller lawn tractors not the larger stuff. Can anyone throw some numbers as to what they have paid for something like or similar to this. JamesK
Ronald Hribar Posted August 20, 2005 Posted August 20, 2005 If it is a late model 720 it will have a heavier duty front axle. Which is desireable. Another thing to look for is if the rear Pto works. Will be necessary for that tiller. When I got my 616 which was their first model, supposedly everything was there. Well it wouldn't move $1000 later it would. Did not have pieces for rear pto. $350 later it did. Tiller is worth $675 if it is in good condition. Tractor between $1250 and $2500. If you can fix it yourself. There are a lot of these tractors on the market now.
D-17_Dave Posted August 20, 2005 Posted August 20, 2005 The options you describ are pretty much standard. Pressure up and down and the like. As Ron stated, They are reaching thier "normal" service life and are becomeing more availiable now. Also if you can't crank it you could be buying some hidden problems. However, the attachments are wourth aroud 1500.00-1600.00 so with a broken tractor you could go 2000.00/2500.00 easy and not be hurt if something internal is messed up. This price would allow you to do an engine rebuild or pto replacement or something and still not have an extra ton sunk into it.
JamesK Posted August 20, 2005 Author Posted August 20, 2005 Well the guy gave me price on the package but I will wait to bring that number up untill I see more feedback. My intentions are if all goes well and I get the tractor it is a package deal all or nothing. I have no use for the tiller but would like to find a loader for it. and eventually a snowthrower. I have looked at the pics someone had posted of one with a backhoe too, definatly would be nice. The only thing this might put a damper on my other waiting project. The B-10 with hyd.lift and loader , sicklebar ,mower, and snowthrower. I have everything here for this project but just cant seem to find the time. James K.
D-17_Dave Posted August 20, 2005 Posted August 20, 2005 James, I can help you with any of you above problem's.lol
JoeJ Posted August 21, 2005 Posted August 21, 2005 :DJimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy, You DO know where I live son!!!:D
HubbardRA Posted August 22, 2005 Posted August 22, 2005 You tell him, Joe! James, looks like two good offers from two good guys. You better use their help while it available.
JamesK Posted August 22, 2005 Author Posted August 22, 2005 OK folks guess I'll spill the beans here. For the above mentioned 720 and equipment/manuals asking price..... drum roll please.... Nahhh better wait... I figure Ill first go back and check that all the pto parts are all there . I guess the 3pt hitch parts should be checked too. I would venture to say they should be, since he has the tiller for it. I know ya never know. I also better make sure the motor at least turns by hand/wrench too. But being his is looking for 500 for the whole setup I guess I cant go wrong. James K..
Ronald Hribar Posted August 22, 2005 Posted August 22, 2005 For that price, you'll be lucky if tractor is still there. run do not walk. Your picture truly will be on Post office wall
D-17_Dave Posted August 22, 2005 Posted August 22, 2005 For that price if gas wasn't so much I'd be on my way to Scranton tonight. I could be there in the mourning and I'd just drive around till I saw it or maybe start knocking on doors.lol Jump on that one!!!
eagle5473 Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 Jim, Can you tell me where in Scranton it is I will drive the 4 hrs from CT for the tractor for $500!!!!!! I would be interested in the tiller
comet66 Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 Man....what are you doing here? You should be over loading that thing.....Heck.... you should be half way home by now!!
JamesK Posted August 23, 2005 Author Posted August 23, 2005 Sorry guys I got first dibs on it. I do intend to purchase this tractor. Now one quick question for those who have a 720. I could be wrong but not sure on this thats why im asking. I reached in by the oil filter to try and spin the flywheel. I could not get it to move, I could not get a good grip on it either. Is this normal or is this more likley that the motor is shot/siezed? I dont know what all is attached to the rear side of the motor due to the cooler and shrouding and what not. As for the PTO issue it appears to be all there. the two lower arms, the adjustment cranks etc. He also has another lift cyl with quick connect fittings . a bunch of belts and filters. Now hopefully the wife will cough up the paper I had the ID numbers written on. We all know the spouse safe place never to be seen again game. The way I see it even if the motor is toast, it's still worth the money. It does have some surface rust here and there but no rot or holes even on the mower deck. The spindels all turn freely. Depending on the info from folks on the flywheel turn idea, I plan on trying to chew him down a little. James K.
Ronald Hribar Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 What is the aname of the Local paper in Scranton. I'm going to take out an ad AC 720 wanted $750.00
eagle5473 Posted August 23, 2005 Posted August 23, 2005 To try and see if the engine is free you can move the cooler up and over by removing 1 bolt I think its 1/2 or 7/16 in size. and you have good access to the double pulley comming directly off the rear of the engine... Take you less than 5 min, you may have to move a fuel line or 2 but nothing major, also if it has juice you may want to engage the front PTO clutch and thenyou can try moving the engine that way....
JamesK Posted August 23, 2005 Author Posted August 23, 2005 Ron Ron Ron, now remember there is a true treasure map. Then as most pirates there is a false map too..;)hehehe. Ill take a ride out to this fells place this weekend and take a look. If the motor is bad, I will use that as a chewin point. I found the Numbers and took a look at the charts here. Seems to be a late 70's to 81 unit with pto. James K.
eagle5473 Posted August 24, 2005 Posted August 24, 2005 For that price even with a bad engine I would not chew too much its a steal even if you need to put some cash into the motor
JamesK Posted August 27, 2005 Author Posted August 27, 2005 well numbers show it to be a 77-81 year. The other numbers on the tag are 1271 any ideas what that stands for? This tag/sticker is on the right side (from drivers seated position) by the rear of the foot boards on frame. James K.
