imn2vws 0 Posted August 24, 2005 Does anyone know if you can get an Optima battery ror a mower? I have heard that you can. I talked to a couple of parts places around here(Auto Zone and Advance Auto), and they say that if I can get them a part number they can get it. Does Anyone know the Optima part number that would fit in a Sovereign? Thanks, Danny
ambler 0 Posted August 24, 2005 22NF or 52R. What is an Optima? Go to Walmart for a 52R
ReedS 5 Posted August 24, 2005 Ambler, An optima is a I belive a gell cell battery, can be mounted on it's side if nescessary. I'd say overkill for a garden tractor and likely to set you back $100 or so which will equal at least 2 wal mart everstart batts.
Bunky 3 Posted August 25, 2005 Unless you MPH I really see no need for a Optima..:D
imn2vws 0 Posted August 25, 2005 They can sit untouched for a year(maybe more) and start a car without a boost.I thought that would be perfect for a mower. I have started my railbuggy after it sat for over 8 months, It has a high compression engine with both carbs empty and cranked it for a long time. I hear they are only about $60 for a small one. Thought someone on here might be able to help, Thanks Danny
Roy 0 Posted August 25, 2005 Danny, You may be onto something. I like the "stay charged" feature. Let us know if find one to fit. Thanks,
imn2vws 0 Posted August 25, 2005 I have e-mailed Optima to see if they do make a battery for a mower.I hope they do. Danny
firefoxz1 4 Posted August 25, 2005 An optima is not a gell cell battery nor is it acid filled it is some sort of drycell battery (I believe) and easy to identify. It does not sulfate from deep discharges or sitting low/uncharged. It has six round cells, two rows of three, easily seen in the casing(almost like a sixpack in a formed case). MPH 12 Posted August 26, 2005 HEY Bunky, what you mean???Mine all start fine on Diehard Garden tractor batteries. Last one was around 35 bucks I think. My oldest one, 5 or 6 years in the 725 is getting a little weak.:I
2burning 1 Posted August 29, 2005 Optima makes a 51 51R size that should fit in our 22NF trays: http://www.optimabatteries.com/publish/optima/americas0/en/config/product_info/automotive/deep_cycle/technical_specs.htmlhttp://www.optimabatteries.com/publish/optima/americas0/en/config/product_info/automotive/deep_cycle/technical_specs.html
stevenj 4 Posted August 30, 2005 From their website.... quote:An OPTIMA RedTop battery is the only battery specifically designed to take abuse. Its patented SPIRALCELL® Technology offers 15 times the vibration resistance and up to twice the life of ordinary batteries. Plus, it's spill-proof, highly resistant to heat and cold, and can be stored for long periods without maintenance. If you like to play hard, OPTIMA is the battery for you. Look for it's colored top and six-pack shape at your local Optima dealer. The increased vibration resistance might be a benefit since getting a good hold down system on this design of case might be difficult.
