patrician12 Posted September 5, 2005 Posted September 5, 2005 A friend of mine just gave me a Gilson C-12 tractor with a 301 Kohler. It sat for 10 years outside but he drained every drop of gas before putting it away.I put fresh gas and a battery in and it started after a few minutes and ran great.I just want the engine and junking the rest.Anyway I start to look at the tractor from every angle. It is extremely well made.Nice Kohler motor.Cast iron trans and front axle. The grill is cast iron and acts as a counterweight.Big rear tires and heavy suspension. The things I mentioned hardly break though. It has 7 belts if you count the generator.2 off the motor to a jackshaft.2 off the jackshaft to the trans.2 off the jackshaft to the mower deck. All the belts off the jackshaft except for the mower looked like hours to change.the air cleaner had to be muscled past the grill. The oil drain is inaccessible with the deck on etc.etc.etc. Our AC s and Simplicitys where routine stuff is routine.Belts changed in under 5 minutes, attachments in 10 minutes, service simple and things very accessible. You have to look at others products to appreciate what with have. The engineers at Simplicity really think of real life field conditions and I take my hat off to them. One last thought I have is about Gilson .I have 2 others besides this one. They are engineered so different and look so different it hard to imagine they were made by the same company.Even the 3 decks had no commonality. It is easy to see how they went out of business with tooling and production costs so high.
Jovee Posted September 5, 2005 Posted September 5, 2005 I just did work on a G-16 for a friend a few weeks ago. It wasnt too complicated with the hydro but my biggest complaint was the tiny hi/lo lever was located under the seat pan. That would be a pain after a while in the field -Joe
MPH Posted September 5, 2005 Posted September 5, 2005 That G-16 sounds like the same Wards-16 I had. After you get the tractor all tuned in to work, change attactments a few times, then you just flat love the engineeers at Simplicity
D-17_Dave Posted September 5, 2005 Posted September 5, 2005 Sounds like he was describeing a Cub-Cadet. Well built, but a pain to work on and deal with. Not to mention it doesn't mow very well. You can get most any brand mower to cut, but to mow well you MUST have a Simplicity.
orangeone Posted September 5, 2005 Posted September 5, 2005 I agree with al of you. We don't know good we have it with these Simplicitys

For ease of maintenance AND cut quality, Simplicity deck design is head & shoulders above the rest. Tacey
KVANDY12 Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 AC 914, AC 710, Homelett T-10, Simp.7013. Decks, Tillers, Blades, fit all of these tractors the same way. No hassle, and they all cut, till, push the same. Great!!!!
toad270 Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 I have used an A/C ever since I was 13 years old I'm now 38 and don't even think of using a different brand these are the best tractors built why look at something else!!!!!!!!!!!!
