Simplicity314 0 Posted September 8, 2005 Hi all: As some of you might remember I broke my arm recently. I'm finally out of my cast, and I'm putting my 64 LL together that I took apart before I broke my arm. Most of it's done, but I can't remember two of the wire connections, given all the time that past!!. First, my toggle switch. One lead goes to the coil (+) pole, the other lead goes...???? Second, BAT (or L) lead from voltage regulator. which post of the ammeter does this go on looking at the posts from behind the dash. I'm pretty sure it goes to the right post, with the lead coming from the push button starter being on the left one, but want to make sure. Thanks in advance. --Jim
HubbardRA 19 Posted September 8, 2005 If you are still using the key switch, the toggle should hook to a lead on the ignition switch that has power when the switch is on. If not then it should hook to the + side of the battery. As far as the ammeter hooks between the BAT lead and the battery + side, or a terminal on the ignition switch that is connected to the battery + side with the ignition switch in the on position. If you have the leads correct, it will show a slight discharge when you turn on the ignition, and then it will show charge when the engine starts. If it shows charge when ignition is turned on, then discharge when the engine starts, then the leads on the meter are reversed.

Simplicity314 0 Posted September 8, 2005 Thanks Rod and Maynard. I found a good illustration of the ammeter setup in the owner's manual from the simp. mfg. site...I was looking at the illus. of the dash when the electrical diagram was much clearer. Maynard..I did a search on battery ignition wiring before I made the post and saw that diagram and others. Mine went to one of the posts on the voltage regulator. I forgot which one. It's the way the tractor came. Is that the best way to wire it or should I connectect it straight to the pos. post of the battery?? Thanks. --Jim
Kent 435 Posted September 9, 2005 A toggle switch connected to the voltage regulator sounds to me like a switch for the headlights -- not for the ignition...
Simplicity314 0 Posted September 9, 2005 No, it was the ignition toggle. There's even a small piece of hose on the VR end from when the wire rubbed against the hood. The eyelet connector is tiny...large enough for a small screw on a VR tab. The lights were spliced into the line that went from the VR to the ammeter. Yeah, this traactor was a piece of work. Big ol' wire nuts at the splices, 2 differnt wire gauges throughout...
