Guest Posted September 22, 2005 What are the differences between Category 0, 1, etc. hitches? I tried to find some explanation on the web but nothing surfaced. While we're on the subject, why was a Cat 0 hitch provided on the Pow'rMax and not a Cat 1? I apologize in advance if this subject is too trivial to most of you. PGL 431 Posted September 22, 2005 0 is smaller because it's an L&G tractor, not meant for many regular tractor implements. Sometimes size does matter.
D-17_Dave 12 Posted September 22, 2005 The catogories are set up on size verses HP and weight. These catogories go up to Cat-4 I believe like on BIG ag tractors. This gives an industry standard and keeps equipment too large from being used against equipment too small. Even though the newer Legacy tractors have a Cat-1 hitch on them and enough power to pull most small implements it's weight limits it as to what all it can do. Guest Posted September 22, 2005 So, I make sure that the implement is Cat 0 and I'm good to go? We're talking about a Pow'rMax here. I'm curious though. What specification make up each of the categories?
D-17_Dave 12 Posted September 22, 2005 Distance between the left & right pins, height distance between the line bewteen the lower pins and the top link. These dimentions are predetermined by the industy standards. Also the dia. of the pins used helps designate the diff. That way you have a strong enough surface to pull from and again it keeps you from hooking the wrong combination together. There are spacer addapters that will allow you some crossing of attachments but you'll put a strain on something if you use too much of the wrong combination. GregB 936 Posted October 4, 2005 I have a couple of pages I copied from a SAE spec book years ago. They cover CAT 1 to CAT IV. Sorry no CAT 0. They are poor copies, I could try to scan them or send copies if needed. They cover the tractor dimensions and the impliment dimensions pin size etc. E-mail if interested. FiremanRon 0 Posted October 16, 2005 The Legacy XL, Kubota BX and other sub-compact utility tractors that have a "limited Cat. 1" hitch are limited by the height that they can lift an implement, due to the smaller rear tires. You are also limited by the weight of the tractor to balance the weight of the implement. The rear of the Legacy looks very similar to the Pow'r Max, and you may be able to swap the hitch arms between the two tractors. Also, the Legacy before 2004, had a Cat. 0 hitch. King Kutter has taken advantage of this market and brought out a line of scaled down implements for these tractors. Some implements are exactly the same as the regular Cat.1 but the mounting points are lower. I have a normal Cat.1 box scraper and I can only lift it a few inches. Post hole diggers are the most limiting, based on the length of the auger.
