ambler 0 Posted September 28, 2005 I'm putting a tractor together right now and I want to do it right. What is the best practice? I wire brushed the old engine mounting bolts. I believe these are grade 5 3/8". by the simplicity chart should these be torqued to 30 ft lbs? Should fasteners be lubricated, Use new fasteners? I found reference to drive shaft bolts to torque to 20 ft lbs even though they are grade 5 3/8ths.
D-17_Dave 12 Posted September 28, 2005 I'd say the drive shaft bolts torque that low to keep the fiber disc's from being mashed.
HubbardRA 19 Posted September 28, 2005 I use locknuts on my engine bolts, that way I don't have to worry about high torques. Just make sure that the torque on all bolts are approximately the same.
Tom Deutsch 0 Posted September 28, 2005 What about using loc-tite to keep nuts from backing off? Also, I tend to use anti-sieze when I reassemble something. Seems to really hold off corrosion. Those torque values sound right to me for that size bolt.
BLT 717 Posted September 28, 2005 Fasteners need to be cleaned and lubricated to get correct torquing.
ambler 0 Posted September 28, 2005 I see if you oil fasteners that the torque value is about half of this table.
Guest Posted September 28, 2005 I use grade 8 on everything.
