SmilinSam 3,931 Posted October 16, 2005 Today I locally Bid on a 1998 Massey Ferguson 2720 (Landlord DLX look alike) at a local auction. Blow engine and couldnt see any oil in the transmission resevoir or tube. Liitle old guy who couldnt hardly walk owned it and probably just never maintained it. Power steering, hydro lift, 50 " mower deck. All in real good physical shape. I ran it up to $300 and quit. Did want to risk more with not seeing oil in the tranny. Bidding was awful slow , so a lot of consideration was going into the bidding on all sides. Contending bidder won it for $310. After the sale I approached the winning bidder( another old guy who did not seem to be all that mechanically inclined). He said he had a 20 hp briggs engine at home but it was missing parts and he was going to try to install that. I gave hime some pointers and offered some advice. I also asked him if he were aware that the transmission oil resevoir was empty. He hadnt, and wasnt thrilled to hear that bit of news. I told him if it had had oil in it I would have bid a good bit more. Probably would have gone $400 anyhow seeing as how I have a 26hp intek that I could fit in it. I inquired as to buying my engine, but I declined as I need to go over it some more and would like to keep hanging onto it anyhow. Told him I did have some attachments that would fit it if he managed to get it goig. He requested my card and phone number so I gave him one. I left him with the idea that I'd buy the thing from hime for what it sold for if he found he didnt want to work on it. Who knows, I may end up with it down the road yet....;)
