Clutch and Hydraulic Noise?

Recommended Posts

ropari
I recently purchased a Deutz 916, and was told it is basically the same as a Simplicity Sovereign, and am not familiar with the mechanics of these yet. It runs good, but never having had one before there are two things bothering me. When I engage the deck there is initially a loud squeal, but everything runs fine. I disconnected the belt so the deck would not be turning and I still get the squeal. Wondering if the clutch is adjustable or possibly has a replaceable pad of some sort??? Secondly, there is a small whine from the rear of the tractor when mowing. Guessing hydraulic??? Any input as to ways to improve/ stop these noises would be greatly appreciated.

My 716 has the same Sunstrand transmission as the 916. It also has the hydraulic whine. I just put up with it. My cone clutch also makes one short squeel when engaged. If it makes a short squeel, that is good and means it is holding. On mine I have found out that when the cone clutch does not squeel it is usually slipping. I burned up one PTO clutch. I have three tractors with the cone clutch setup. The AC716, an AC713, and a Simplicity 7116 which is the same as a 916. I do not have my 7116 running yet, so I can only compare to my 700 series tractors. They do, however, have the same drivetrain, and PTO clutch setup. Just a slight difference in the frame and sheetmetal.

Thanks much. I appreciate you taking the time to answer, and you have helped put my mind at rest. Hopefully I will learn more about this tractor as time progresses. So far it has been enjoyable, but much different than my Ingersoll.

I hear the same kind of noises from my Pow'rmax and was meaning to ask the same question. Good thing that you beat me to it because your description was better than anything I could've crafted.

You have yourself a great tractor, and yes it is the same as a Simplicity Sovereign (7116) except most Simplicities have a B&S engine instead of the Kohler K341. The only thing I would be leary of is the paint ....(its green).

The green is good as long as its on something AC or simpilcity made. I've not heard any one say anything about the white and blue on my Homelett T-10. I guess it's a JD green thing. I have a AC 914H and love it. Add a hydalic lift to it about 4 month ago, something to think about.

Ken, I know you like that hydraulic lift, because I love the one on my 716H. Thinking about another on the 7116H when I get it re-done. Only thing I will do differently is the hose routing.
