Simplicity 4041 rear clutch (PTO) problems

The PTO on my Dad's Simplicity 4041 won't go. I've determined that it's not the switch (by switching the front and back switches). The switch makes no noise at all when engaged. Any idea where to go from here? Doug

Doug welcome to the greatest info center. If you have power to the clutch under the cover, it more then likely has broke the epoxie loose in the clutch and sheared the wires in it, you will have to pull it if it has. Member JP has fixed some of them if the coil is still good, if not simplicity still has them for sale at 185.00.

Thanks wilm169. I am getting voltage to the clutch, my mechanic friend confirms that the clutch is broken. Where can I go to buy a replacement? The Simplicity site doesn't seem to sell direct. Doug

Hi Doug! Welcome to the fray! Levi's right on for the magnets. So far, you're not describing what's broke (it's sounding electrical). Did the arm going to the chain link break off & spin the wires off? Did a bearing fail & cause mostly the same? Did the epoxy fail? The epoxies used in the 'era' these were made aren't up to the technology we have now. That in mind, IF the coil is salvagable I can re-epoxy the coil for about 1/3 of the price of a new one. Glad to help, just need more info.... JP

Thanks to all for your help. I ordered a replacement rear clutch from Sandy Lake, the tractor is now running fine. Doug
