fuel line shutoff ? Anyone try Jack's?

Hey Jacks sells the gas shutoff shown below on their site and then they sell the Simplicity part number: 156176 VALVE SHUT OFF for $10.25 when you do a parts lookup. Has anyone compared and confirmed if the $5 one works? I need a few of these. Also is there a way to fix these valves? I've not had a chance to take these apart...

Michael, I have the generic one on my tractors. They work just as good what was OEM on the tractor, The only problem I have had is you have to have the shutoff positioned just so, so the fuel line to the carb is not kinked.

Nick, thanks... I am reviewing the archives for tank repair and intend to fix about three tanks at the same time. I'd rather not spend $30 on three valves! So if I understand you, when you thread in the valve, the tightened position may not point quite right towards the carb and you need to work it to make that happen... i.e. not kink the fuel line. That's what I am thinking you're saying. I am also going to look to see if I can disassemble these valves and perhaps replace an O-ring or something... http://www.simpletractors.com/club2/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=24637&SearchTerms=fuel,tank http://www.simpletractors.com/club2/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=25376&SearchTerms=fuel,tank

Have used the $5 kind on my B-1 for years. Tefon tape should solve the fuel line direction problem if you have one. Just be sure not to get any tape fragments in the fuel line/tank.

Yep, that's what I was trying to say. It had happened to me and the motor was starving for fuel.

The ones I have bought from Napa appear the same as the originals I've pulled out of the tanks. I doubt there is any difference at all.

(Chris - Thanks! - BTW: got a note back from Jacks and they say the $4.69 probably will not work... then again, could have been a quick answer.) Well going on line it looks like you can get Plastic, metal and then the fuel shutoff for a 700/725 or B1 type machine... nice: Below is what I found from Napa... Jack's looks to be a $1 cheaper, not sure if it's the same. Probably is. NAPA Small Engine Fuel Shut-Off Valve Available only at NAPA stores. SME 702324 $ 4.69 NAPA Small Engine Fuel Shut-Off Valve Usually ships in 24 hours. SME 702351 $ 5.69 NAPA Small Engine Fuel Shut-Off Valve Usually ships within 3 to 5 days. SME 702353 $ 6.49

Thanks. I am going to order two/three and post a picture of an original and a Napa one ASAP... that way we all know how these compare. Then I am going to experiment with the nuts in the tank and cut the lawn plan... still need to know what to coat the inside of the tank to stabilize the rust... then patch a pin hole or maybe two. Paint and get these back in tractors. Note: The picture of the Jacks part looks like the filter section is longer...

Here is a link to what other members have done to clean the rust and coat the inside of the tanks http://simpletractors.com/club2/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=55444&SearchTerms=kreme .
