Terry_Hart 0 Posted November 20, 2005 I would like to change the oil in my Hydro. It is a AC 716H. What oil do I use? How much does it hold?
bigdog46 2 Posted November 21, 2005 According to my manual you can also use Type F automatic transmission fluid - that is what I use as it is available at my local Autozone store.
UCD 14 Posted November 21, 2005 Type F, Dexron I,II,III, Mercon ATF all can be used Simplicity lists all of these depending on what year or chart you look at.
Terry_Hart 0 Posted November 21, 2005 Thanks, Have you noticed the hydro being any smoother engaging after an oil change? How often do you change it?
RayS 79 Posted November 22, 2005 When I got my 917H it was sluggish and slow. I changed the filter and oil and that made a world of difference. I have had alot of tractors go thru here and the biggest problems is that most of them have the original oil in them and it is low. It just seems as if people don`t realize that a little preventive maintenance goes along way. My 917H more than likely had the orignal filter and oil in it. UCD 14 Posted November 22, 2005 When you change the filter do not use a cheap filter like Fram, mighty, etc. they will cause problem.. They do not have the correct micron rating or flow rate. Use an OEM filter or a Quality name brand filter that crosses directly with the OEM number like Wix, Napa, Baldwin. This has been proven out many times by the members here. Terry_Hart 0 Posted November 22, 2005 I got the filter from the dealer. It has a Siplicity number on it. Does it smooth the engagement of the Hydro, when changing directions of travel?

Terry_Hart 0 Posted November 27, 2005 Where do I drain, fill and check the hydro oil?
RayS 79 Posted November 27, 2005 A is the filler and B is the drain. Hold the relief valve open when draining and filling and it won`t take as long.
Terry_Hart 0 Posted November 27, 2005 Thanks Ray! Only one question, where is the relief valve and vent rod?
RayS 79 Posted November 27, 2005 Right above the axle tube on the left hand side of the tractor there is a street elbow sticking out the side of the gear case. pull up on it.
