saving a mower deck

I have an 12.5LTH that is a wonderful piece of machinery but the deck is in need of some help.I have stripped it down to the shell and will be welding patches where it is thin.Once I am done I will sand blast it but then I am not sure how to finish it.Any ideas? Paint will be ok for the top but about anything I use on the underside will get blasted off from sand picked up by the high lift blades. Thanks in advance! P.S. I hope I don't end up with another hobby because I already have Yeller Fever(Cub Cadet addiction:o)) but I suppose worse things could happen.
