Snowblower auger speed

Someplace I read what the speed of the auger on the snowblower should be. I seem to remember that it was suggested not to run it too fast. And a combination of an late model snowblower and an early model tractor turned auger faster. Also seem to think Maynards setup blew it harder also. Question is what is correct speed of auger?

All I know is that mine always amases me at how far it will throw. It just looks like it is turning too slow to me. Opticle illusion I guess.

Ron, I think the early blowers and tractors had the smaller pulleys, so if you used a late model blower with the big pulley on an old tractor with a small pulley, it would turn the auger too slow. If you use an early blower with a late tractor it will turn it too fast. I don't know the correct RPM of the auger is supposed to be, would have to figure PTO RPM, pulley diameters, and teeth count on the roller chain gears.
