Time for a Professional?

My 3415 has been sitting most of the summer after the governor spring broke and the tractor was revving real high. I fixed the spring and it would run for around 5-10 minutes and then die. I pushed it into the garage. (Think it may need the valves adjusted?) Now it has a weak to non-existent spark too. I've replaced the condensor and charged the battery. It turns over fine and still won't start. I tried to bring it to the local lawn equip. repair shop in RI and they said they wouldn't touch it. Any reccomendations for a nearby shop in Northern RI, N.West CT that still works on 30 year old Classics?

Have you cleaned or replaced the points or checked the points gap it should be set at .020. Nine times out of ten when there is no spark it seems that it is the points or at least that is what I have discoverd.

Also if the flywheel and coil has got damp and rust has started it wont work right.I would after cleaning the point and still have no spark check and clean the flywheel and coil. And if you still dont have spark then it may be the coil. The go from there.Just my 2 cents Tony

Greg, I'm here in Brooklyn CT, right up route 6, if you have ever been up this way, there is a great dealer in Woodstock CT. He accualy is a member of the club. He dosn't post much, but every once and a wile. Between him and his son, they are very good. They collect old tractors as well as sell new ones. If you don't mind driving this far, I can meet you and bring you there. Or just give you there info. Well here it is anyway. Calvin R. Neely Yankee Sales & Service. Box 27, Woodstock Road. East Woodstock, CT (860)928-0341 Open 1-6 Weekdays- Sat. 9-4 Elon

Elon, I drive route 6 to go to Hartford a few times a year. I'll have to hook up my trailer and tractor some Saturday. Thanks for the tip. Gregg

Site programming updates were made 3/23/2024. As a result some things have changed including dues payment options. We will continue maintenance and work with technicians to regain credit card payment option and clear up minor challenges. On positive it appears attaching pictures is now easier. Good day. Gene
