1962 725 tractor engine running problem

tractor has sit in garage for ?years cleaned carb and points. engine runs but throtle is up and down never levels out and has no low idle. What should I do? and where can I find spec sheet on engine for points gap,carb settings? mfg# 990269

hey fieldman, had same problem on my 725. wind needle valve all the way in till it lightly touches, then back out 1 1/2 turns. should be close. do the same with other adj, back it out 1 turn. point gap [if its a model 19 7 1/4 hp] is .020. best thing to do is buy a point eliminator chip [2 wire hook up] and be done with the problem. one other thing, make sure it is getting enoughfuel. had same trouble with 8hp. new fuel shut off messed up and not letting enough fuel in. did the same up and down surging .worth a check. charlie
