D-17_Dave Posted December 15, 2005 Posted December 15, 2005 Ice storm here last night and today. Spent most of the day running calls and clearing roads. Anytime is a bad time for fires like that. Worst we seem to have had today was a power line down whitch jumped hot under a car. Car was toasted and garage it was parked next to got a little singed. It wasn't my dept. but here in my county.
Kent Posted December 15, 2005 Posted December 15, 2005 Monday night a huge old colonial about 3 blocks away burned, along with the 83 year old owner. Sadly, they'd been visiting him that morning trying to get him to agree to go into a nursing home... He was a smoker, and they think it was started by a cigarette...
ehertzfeld Posted December 15, 2005 Posted December 15, 2005 A small ranch up the road from me was gutted last night. It was a young couple with two young boys. Not sure how it started or if everyone made it out ok, but I'm hoping so. Too dam close to Christmas for that to happen. Elon

I agree, that is why when I choose to make monetary donations, I make them to my local VFD, because they are the ones that will help me in my time of need. JH
firefoxz1 Posted December 16, 2005 Posted December 16, 2005 My neices friend (12YO) just parished in a home fire last weekend. What upsets my neice the most is the girl was going to spent that night at my brothers but didn't feel the best so stayed home. <<NO WORKING SMOKE DETECTORS>>

It's the third one I went to in two weeks. I don't know in other areas but we seem to go to more fires in the winter then we do the rest of the year.
