Exhaust Silencer?

I was looking on the Jacks Small Engine site and noticed there is something called an Exhaust Silencer listed under the Kolhler engines replacement parts. It appears to be a device that is inserted into the exhaust outlet. Is anyone here familiar with this?

I think Brent Baumer tried this or something simular. Personally the only thing I have found that helps are ear plugs.
