bimm Posted December 17, 2005 Posted December 17, 2005 I am trying to get my 2012 charging. I opened my voltage regulator, and found a lot of things burnt up. I installed a used regulator. When I hit the starter button, the wire between the regulator(gen terminal) and the starter (A terminal) gets very hot and starts to smoke. Is there a quick trouble shooting guide for dummies? I read the service section and I will have to check a few things tommorrow. I checked a few things with meter. The gen terminal on regulator is grounded. This would be the reason that the wire smokes. Is the regulator bad? Any help would be great!
JJ MARSHALL Posted December 17, 2005 Posted December 17, 2005 take the small wire loose that runs from the A terminal on the generater back to regulator <gen terminal> then try to start it then check the starter wire to see if it get hot then check to see if the small wire is grounded. JJ
Morris Posted December 19, 2005 Posted December 19, 2005 Check recent threads on starter generators (might have to go back several pages) but I'm sure we have posted some wiring diagrams for various tractors with the starter/gen setups. Or you can try this link and see if that helps, shows a basic wiring diagram for starter/gennies. http://jacques_lacasse.tripod.com/Info/StartGen01.gif
bimm Posted December 19, 2005 Author Posted December 19, 2005 I removed small wire between generator A terminal and regulator GEN terminal. It starts fine. The gen terminal on regulator is grounded, and when I try to replace wire it arcs and gets hot. I guess I will print wiring prints and go back to the shop. Thanks for your help!
