7010 transmission stuck in gear

Recommended Posts

I was skidding logs with my 7010 over the weekend. I shut it off to hook up to a log and when I started it, put the gear shift lever into gear, and let out the brake, the tractor didn't move and the belts started to smoke. I quickly put the gear shifter in neutral and let off the brake and it started to move forward. The shift lever won't move past neutral to 1st/3rd and it seems to be locked in gear. Seems like I have seen a similar description topic before but couldn't find it. I haven't had a chance to get into it yet but wanted to see if anyone else can offer any suggestions as to what is wrong and what it takes to correct. Thanks! Greg

Might try a seach for 'bent screw driver trick' Pretty sure the is a post on here done by Kirk 'thedaddycat' What you do is remove the fill plug on the top of the tranny and I think your hooking the shift fork. Never knew just what I was hooking but I had to do it a couple time on my B-112 before I tore it down. Trouble in mine was someone replaced a retainer clip with the wrong type and the gear would slide to far. Fianlly had a chance to try the bent screwdriver trick today. Thought I would never get it. I just couldn't seem to find the right thing to push/pull on that made a difference. I could lock the transmission up, I think by engaging both shift forks, but had a hard tme finding the right one to free up both forks. I ended up removing the hi/low drive pulleys and belt guard to give myself enough room. Also ended up using an allen wrench as suggested in one of the links, I held it with a small pair of vise grips. I tried a piece of 5/16 rod first, with a variety of trial and error bends. I was trying to avoid bending a perfectly good screwdriver. I think the smaller diameter of the allen wrench that worked for me made a difference. Anyway, I was fianlly successful. Thanks for all the links. If I hadn't known that someone else had been successful with this technique, I might have given up too soon.
