Guest Posted January 24, 2006 How many have completely replaced all of the wires in their tractors? After already experiencing a few problems due to old wires I'm thinking about replacing mine.
swede 0 Posted January 24, 2006 I have done that. After fighting with electrical problems for so long, I started all over with my powermax. The PO had done some "custom" wiring so I was never sure what was what. I also put in all new switches to eliminate any problems there. You need to take good notes when removing the old and a good wiring diagram when installing the new. Things are so much better now and the wires are bundled nice and routed out of harms way. (My lights no longer wink at me!!) It can be time consuming, but it is way worth it. I'm not sure if there is even wire harnesses available for these tractors. I have made my own wiring harnesses ever since I spent money on a harness for my IH W6 that wasn't even close.
Nubian 3 Posted January 24, 2006 Definitely change over if capable.I have done that with my 1920 Ultima but it was with an OEM harness from another tractor that was mint. Like stated above my PO did some custom work and had different colors all over the place, not good when your troubleshooting electrical problems.
KSever 8 Posted January 24, 2006 I've replaced all the wiring in every tractor I have restored (4) so far. If I'm just buying a tractor to turn around and resale I don't do much but get it running and fine tune it.
Tacey 0 Posted January 24, 2006 Once in a while wiring harnesses are on ebay. I bought one a few months ago for my 3410. Paid around twenty bucks. Tacey
HubbardRA 19 Posted January 24, 2006 Of the three operational tractors that I have, only one has an original wiring harness. The other two were re-wired from scratch. Most times it is easier to start over than to try and trace out a harness and find a problem or change things for a special application, like battery ignition instead of magneto.
