B7S Model 19 Goes Clunk

Just pulled my B&S Model 19 off my wonderboy. When I turn the flywheel the cylinder goes up and down once and then goes "clunk" and locks on the second upstroke. The intake valve opens and closes once once during this but the exhaust valve does not move at all. I am just starting to restore this so I have never had this running (yet). I can reverse the rotation on the flywheel and get to the same spot when it goes clunk again. I haven't removed the botton of the motor yet, just the head. Thanks...Ken Williams

If the piston is going up and down as soon as you move the flywheel the exhaust valve may be frozen in the guide - especially if it was outside and water was allowed to enter. If this is the case start soakintg it with penetrating oil, remove the vavle cover and try prying the valve it up with a large screwdriver. Once moved some, see if the piston will rotate further. If so you know you are on the right track.
