Axle Problem?

JV

Recommended Posts

I have a problem with my 725. The left axle can move very slightly back/forth and a fair amount in/out. Is there an adjustment to correct this or is the bearing shot? Also, do most of you guys run lead substitute in the gas? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

JV, Pull the left axle all the way to the left. Loosen the set collar next to the transaxle, move it right as far as it will go, and then tighten it. Unless something is broken or excessively worn this will reduce/eliminate the excess motion. Leaded fuel is not required. Good luck,

Roys fix should elimante the in in and out play but not the forward to back play. There is a brass bushing in the axle tube on each end that is replaceable cheap and all you would need to due is pull the axle itself out, drive out the old ones and install the new. If you do that may as well replace the axle tube seals while your at it, for some reason they seem prone to leaking after 40 years:)
