My tractor

Went to move my 7120 (7117 with kohler 20). Did not want to turn over. Then it pushed gas out the muffler. Knew right away what happened. But unsure why it did. Tractor sits in my heated garage. With the valve shut off on the gas line. I turned the valve on before trying to start motor. I either did not have valve shut off completely. Or there was presure built up in gas tank and forced it way thru. I drained 3/4 gallon of gas oil out of motor. With new oil in tractor started up right away, ran rough until plugs cleared. What do you think happened to fill motor with gas?

The only way I know it can happen is if the float sticks open or dirt is in the needle valve, just my guess though

Ron, do you have a return line on this engine? I've seen nearly full tanks flow backwards through the return line and hydro lock like this since I had the fuel cutoff in place and off. Had this happen last week on my 620.

one line only. I'm thinking shut off valve may be bad. I do not think I could build enough pressure in tank to force that much gas in a few minutes thru motor.

Speaking of crankcase flooding, does anyone have experience with the B&S v-twin engines in Toro Twister utility vehicles? we did some work on the family friends' one, sounds like some scoring on the sleeve walls from diluted oil, and don't know how to counter that. apparently its a common problem, too much gas accumulates and drains into the crankcase.ran up to the neighbors with it today to return the cultivator Im using for a guide for mine and suddenly in the driveway it started spluttering and spewing bluish smoke. diluted oil again already or an even more fun problem?

Ron My 7120H did the same last year. I didn't know what happened until I puller the plug and gas shot out.

Did you notice any appreciable amount of gas in the oil or the oil level higher than normal. I have filled the crankcase full but I've also seen where the carb just leaked down and partially filled one cyl. hydro-locking that side upon trying to crank it but it wasn't enough to get past the rings and dilute the oil so I figured it was a carb/float problem or maybe heat build up starting the flow out of the carb till the carb ran dry and it stopped. Far fetched I know, but since it only happened one time and it hasn't repeated it's hard to narrow down. I would tend to agree first that the shut off is bad.

I agree with you Ron on being able to build enough presurre in the tank to force 3/4 gal into the crankcase that quickly. I'd say check your shut off valve, maybe add some presurre to the tank. Which I'm guessing you think you may have gotten coming in from the cold then warming up?

Ron I have a 20hp magium and when it was new the fuel pump went bad and filled the crankcase the dealer replaced it for free and no problems sence. The fuel pump is ran off the engines vac.

After filling up crankcase with gas, draining crankcase and replacing oil filter. I ran motor long enough to bring up to operating temperature. I shut off gas valve and motor stopped after running out of gas, I did that twice. When motor stopped it was like shutting off ignition key. Did not sputter at all. turned on gas valve and it started very quickly. I never thought of pulling gas cap off to check on pressure in tank. It is sitting in cold shed now. Before I start it next time, I will check closely , if I have gas in motor, I will put new valve on. Is there a fuel solenoid that I could put into line that would automatically open when key is turned on?

I haven't been able to find anything like an automatic 12volt inline shutoff valve for gas lines except for the evry exspensive drag raceing setup stuff. Like around 100.00 + for one that was a bit bulky.
