Trying to decide if I need to make a project out of this of just flush it.

Anyone have their aluminum welding skills down pat? :p This is a tractor I got last year instead of cash for some work I had done. 8

Simple solution would be to trade it to Graham (maxtorman) for his castiron Briggs that seems to be causing him such frequent problems... :D:D:D:D:D:D:D

I've offered him lots of stuff, like a hydro lift. But he won't take it. I guese he wants to keep it around so he's got something t complain about.[:0]:o)

When a driver asked what was wrong this was what we called "BROKE BAD"

Did my scrap man leave that at your place? I just gave one just like that to him.

I had considered finding a 16 Briggs to replace it. They are getting hard to find. Maybe it's time to use the block and make a pulling motor complete with the head tie-downs and bearing insert rod so the crank can be turned .020. 8D With the bare blocks going for over $100 on e-prey, maybe just sell the block and put it towards a Briggs fund.

So that's where it came from! If he shows up with a good motor, it's mine! :p

Are you sure the crank is bad? I had a 12HP Kohler that broke a rod like that and the crank looked the same but it cleaned up nicely with muriatic acid and some polishing.

Unless the rog stuck to the crank and broke off under the piston, the crank would have come around and chopped the rod off under the piston. If this is the case the crank probably has a good dent in it and has been deformed. If you dent in cast iron somewhere else had to move outward so it'll be out of round someway.

I had one that looked about like that. Took it to local Carquest Auto Parts and they sent it to their shop in Bangor and turned it .010 under for $44. I think you can buy a machine and do it yourself -- for about $60,000!!

The crank was already .010 under. If it could be cleaned up to .020 with no problems, I would try one of the rods they use in pulling that uses the inserts. Do ya mean my dremel tool won't clean up the crank? Lots cheaper than $60k :p

Mike, whats the horse power? The only difference between a 12 and 16 is the bore. Rod, crank and valves according to my manuals are the same. You could bore the cylinder to a standard size bore for the 16 and you would have one or at least that is what I have been told by my local dealer and it makes since.

It's a K341 - 16 hp. I think I might have a usable crank from a 321 if that's the case. Thanks for the tip!

I was thinking that it was a Briggs and that was what I was refering to above when I stated boring a 12 out to a 16. I never owned a cast iron Kohler so I don`t know if that is possible.
