What is the earliest that we can fire our machines up and not tick off the neighbors? I know the answer if you live in a rural area, but for those of you that live in a subdivision? Also, now that I think of it....I don't know why I spent so much time and money trying to get my headlights to work....it will be too rude to fire up the tractor any time that it is dark!!:D

My neighbors kids like to play there music loud sometimes to 3:00 am when their parents are gone. So sometimes I return the favor with my tractors when there parents are home. When asked why I did that, I told them I didn`t appreciate the music at 3:00 am and it has stopped since then. So i try not to do anything until at least 7:00 am now.

While some of my big city neighbors will run mowers at 9am, I wont run anything until at least 11. It helps maintain my stealth and friendship with the other neighbors. Our house are about 20ft apart. You can hear someone sneeze a block away

have ya's have ever seen roofers wait till noon to fire up their equipment? Most roofer are out there @ the break of dawn, but then they don't live there. The gas company is on site clanking around at 7:30 I expect there is a rule about noise and time constraints in your area and the commercial guys better follow it or they get a fine. When your working sometimes you have a slot of time to do your work and early is maybe going to wake a few folks up. But then it's much better to get up in the morn and beat the rush aint it? Equipment test is prolly best done when the dew is dry. Your neighbors should not whine unless it is a daily thing. Offering to help with their equipment, makes the noise sound like money in their pocket.

I run my snowblower at 5 am. Usually there are other units operating AFTER I break the silence

with snow i think it is ok to fire up any old time. The snow muffles the sound anyway. With mowers i think it is polite to wait until 9. I stopped worrying about the neighbors years ago.

I usually wait until around 11 am to start mowing or playing, That's about when the grass dries anyway. Most of mine is on Saturday, so I usually spend the morning on errands and mow in the afternoon. In the evenings I try to finish by 9:00 if possible, of course since none of my tractors have lights, I don't have much option.

I try to quit around 9 pm. Seems most of my neighbors do too. I did finish reshingling my roof at midnight once, only because it "had" to be done in the morning so the inspector would pass it for the mortgage co. I usually don't start before 8 am, but sometimes you hear the mowers as early as 7 am. In years past you could actually be shot for running the mower on a Sunday, but that's in rural NC. :-)

Actually way too close JJ, got a young couple across the road from me maybe about 300 yards. with enough trees not to see each others yards at least.

Hey Rays I did the exact same thing. My neighbors used to party until the wee hours of the morning. Being a morning bird, I would get up at 6 am and fire up granny and make mow the upper part of the yard right below their house. Granny was very loud (hollow muffler). She always seemed to get the dogs barking and the neighbors up. After a few nights and days of this everything has been real quiet here most of the time. ;-). ddh

I try to wait till at least 9am before I start one. After 10am I'll fire up Melanie's puller:D About dusk is when I stop running them. I have a few houses around me, but no one has ever said anything. I think it has something to do with me plowing and tilling for them:D We are a happy little compound up here:o) Elon

I depends. If the neighbor has call the township latley or not. If they have I might start mowing at 6:30 or 7:00 am on saturday and finish on sunday about 9:30 or 10:00 pm. If not I wait till 8:30 or 9:00 and will get it done before 11:30. I havn't had any problems with them latley, So I'm being good and keeping the noise down but If they make me real mad I bring home the tig welder and weld for a few min every hour from about 8:00 at night till 10:00 just to mess with their tv. Boy does she upset. I only do this type of stuff if they call the township before they come over and say something to me, If they come over I try to be a good neighbor and listen to them and try and work it out with them, But I also have a right to do stuff in my barn!

I like to sleep in alittle on my days of so grass cutting doesn't usually happen til afternoon, snowblowin is a whenever it needs to be done and I'm home kinda thing, I don't usually do anything but study my eyelids for holes between 1 and 5 am sos if I'm sleepin so can everyone else! LOL Between the full throttle H-D's, dirt bikes and hot rods (not to mention music) around here I don't worry too much about my tractors, I just try to use a little common sense now and then. Most times I quit tinkerin round 9 anyhoo.

I avoid cutting the lawn or using the tractors when people are around. Though if it's after 12 noon on Saturday and I must get a job done, I'll go to town with a machine. The earliest I'll start is 9 or 10, depending how important the job is. Though just trucking around, goofin around, playing pushing dirt, or cleaning brush, seeing what each attachment will do, all that starts between 12noon to as late as 9pm. As for lights, mostly needed to plow. Though as I said, 9pm to even as late as 10pm, you could need them outside of the longest days. On a side note, if I ever found a quieter muffler (we could enhance this post with some discussion on that or start a new one), I'd appreciate that so I am less "limited". Also, like ReedS, I snow plow (would snow blow, if it worked right for me) any time it's needed.
