Tasbrus Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 Hi, I just acquired a 1973 AC 416 that I am planing to restore. It has been sitting under cover for many years by the amount of dust on it so I may be picking your brains quite a bit. Its just amazing what sites you can find on the net. Steve
wilm169 Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 WELCOME!!!!!!!!!! There are a few of us with extra parts for them.:D
johnmonkey Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 Welcome, it may be a good idea to join the club ($10.00), because you will be able to access more of the site. I have been a member since ~2000. JH
Tasbrus Posted April 23, 2006 Author Posted April 23, 2006 Thanks, I just paid my dues. Goatfarmer, what makes 416's unusual and is that a good thing or a bad thing. The price was right (FREE). Here is a picture of it. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v66/onemorecast/DSC01896.jpg
UCD Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 300 series Only made one year 1971. 400 series Only made 2 years 1972/73. No direct cross to Simplicty models.
MDB Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 Welcome to the club, Keep us posted on your progress:D
goatfarmer Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 300 and 400 series were made when AC "split" from Simplicity,so to speak.Like Maynard said, only made a few years, and are unique when it comes to parts crossover. But any free tractor, especially Simplicity or AC is good!
Tasbrus Posted April 24, 2006 Author Posted April 24, 2006 I got this 416 from my BIL while visiting on my way to FL for a vacation so I had to truck it from Atlanta to Panama City Beach and back home to upstate NY. I also have the original service manual and they just found the key and put it in the mail. It may be a while until I start working on it because I have my IH B-275 tore down for a rebuild. This 416 was his pride and joy and he wanted to restore it but has some bad health problems. I am hoping to at least clean it up and get it running by the time he comes to visit this summer.
babablacksheep Posted April 25, 2006 Posted April 25, 2006 Doesn't look too bad for one that's been stored for so long. They are not real simplicitys, but they were well built and lasted a long time. I believe that many simplicity parts will interchange, but there is no cross reference available. Good luck.
MrSteele Posted April 25, 2006 Posted April 25, 2006 Welcome in! I'm one of those who like old things to look old. For me, a good wash and degreasing job on what you have is about all I'd do to it, but would take good care of all innards of the engine, transmission and drive train to be sure they were in good order. Good luck, restoration to showroom or better condition is a long row to hoe for some, but you already seem to have a decent start.
