Got the drive coupler and riser plate situations resolved and done. Now we are at the hooking up of the choke and throttle cables. Choke is no big deal, but as you can see here ther is some sort of control solenoid hooked to the throttle arm of the governor. Also there is a spring with a threaded rod hooked to it to. I'm assuming the rod & spring is what adjusts the rpms. I have no idea what the solenoid is for and am at a loss as to how to hook the tractors conrtrol cable to this. Any ideas?
StanD Posted April 25, 2006 Posted April 25, 2006 Sam: Don,t know for sure but I would guess the solenoid sets the rpm @ about recomended speed for the gen. Eliminate the solenoid and set your throtle linkage to open it the same as solenoid does. Should be close to correct rpm. Stan
BLT Posted April 25, 2006 Posted April 25, 2006 Sam, I am taking a stab that the engine you have is a welder engine. You can go to Kohlerengines.com and with the engine spec number you have and see what OEM it was made for. What you have looks to be an idle run solenoid. A regular generator wouldn't have that feature. Now my thinking is you can just get a throttle arm assembly for either a CH20 Spec 64585 or 64512 those are spec number that Simplicity used in the past. Maybe Al can chime in on this.
D-17_Dave Posted April 25, 2006 Posted April 25, 2006 The sol. should be an idle control. ie, no load on the gen. it idles down. Induce a load and it raises the engine to the required rpm to run at 60 cycles. Remove the sol. as Stan said and bypass the control useing the spring supplied and you shoud be fine. If the spring seems to sensitive for throttle control between idle and wide open throttle you may have to replace the sring w/ one used for a multiple rpm useage. But your on the right track.
Al Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 Sam, I think, I would just try to find the linkage off a regular engine and swap it. I agree I think the solenoid pulls the engine to idle. A dealer will not be able to look up parts from your spec number. Generator engines get diverted near the end of the assy line and routed to the generator division. One has to be a generator dealer and be signed up through a generator distributor to get the gen engine parts. Many are the same as regular engines, but the regular engine distributors, don't have parts look up info on the genset spec engines. Dealers are in the same boat. Most of the parts the cross over info is not rocket science. Al Eden
SmilinSam Posted April 27, 2006 Author Posted April 27, 2006 I think like Dave said, mightbe just the spring I need to replace. I can hook the cable and cable clamp up easy enough to hook to the spring. Thanks all for the input. Sam
RayS Posted April 27, 2006 Posted April 27, 2006 Sam, I have a 20 hp Command in my Prestige but is a vetical shaft. If you would like pictures of it let me know and I will either email them to jou or post them. Should be the same thing that you are looking for but in a vertical application.
