SMC17 Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 A quick question for the powermax people. I'm changing my Hydro fluid and filter and looking at the top of the hydro pump I don't see the "pipe plug" that is referred to in the manual. My tractor is a 620 and where the pipe plug is supposed to be is an allen set screw. Is this what I should be taking out and pouring fluid into when priming the system? Also, on the venting front I'm having problems getting the temperture sensor bolt out of the transmission. Is it a necessity that this come out? I drained the system and jacked up the tractor to get as much fluid out as possible but I'm afraid I'm going to strip the sensor (I can't get a good grip on it). I'm going to try another wrench before I give up but is it truly necessary to take this bolt out? Lastly, sometimes I wish I could wrap my hands around the neck of the engineer who designed this tractor (servicing the starter, pulling the engine to change the drive belt, etc.). My latest gripe is the hydro oil filter position. My filter was sealed so tight I couldn't get it off with my hands so I went to wrench it and of course the wrench couldn't clear the fender well. I ended up hammering/bending the wrench into position in order to get to the filter (the filter seal was still attached to the tractor causing it to lock up). How about another 1/2 inch so we can get a filter wrench in there! I still wouldn't trade my 620 for anything else but sometimes I have to yell at it. Sean
StanD Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 The allen type head is the plug you take out to prime. As you sit on the tractor it is the one on left. Make sure you use a good quality allen wrench so you don,t strip out the hex! Stan
JimS Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 I think you can drain a little more oil out if you remove the sensor. So you will have to decide if it is worth the risk of destroying the sensor for that. You can also get a little more oil out of the system if you manually stroke the cylinders to pump the oil out of them. Don't forget to put the control lever in "float" position before you do this.
Guest Posted April 29, 2006 Posted April 29, 2006 If you use a socket with a breaker bar you will be able to remove the sensor. You do not have to pull the engine to change the drive belts. As for the trans filter I use large channel locks.
SMC17 Posted April 29, 2006 Author Posted April 29, 2006 Thanks for the tips. I just needed the right wrench (open ended 15/16th) to take out the sensor. Quite a bit of oil did come out of the case.
