ac.d17iv Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 I just bought a '06 522 Agco (Simplicity Regent) lawn tractor with the 22hp Intek B&S engine. I'm almost at my first 5 hour oil change and wanted to see what others are using for oil. The manual says I can use SAE 30 at temps above 40 degrees, or 5W-30 or 10W-30 synthetic all the time. I don't plan on using it much in the winter right now. I'm thinking the synthetic will be better for the engine. Should I use 5 or 10W?
RayS Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 I use 10W-30 in my 20hp kohler command. You can tell the difference between conventional oil and synthetic oil when it is zero out.
mwells Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 OW-30 Amsoil synthetic, Rated at the best oil in the world, will protect at higher temeratures then 5 or 10W, and it will protect at lower temperatures then 5 or 10W. It also makes the engine cranck over easier in the winter, I had regular oil in a 410 when it was 20 out, with a good battery it hardly wanted to turn over, with my 1920 ultima, with 0W-30 amsiol, it cranked a little slower then usual, but still had plenty of power to start it quick. Thats my 2cents!
