landlord2110 Posted April 29, 2006 Posted April 29, 2006 I replaced Diff. a year ago with a used one and worked fine for a year and now its back to spinning the tire on right side when turning sharply. Is there a adjustment to make on the diff?
RayS Posted April 29, 2006 Posted April 29, 2006 Theres 5 bolts holding the tire on. The adjustments screws are in the wheel hub on a 45 degree angle. Most of them that I have seen are the same bolt that holds the tire on but I think that I have seen them with allen head set screws in them before.
landlord2110 Posted May 5, 2006 Author Posted May 5, 2006 well, I torqued to spec and didnt help. could there be a reason for a second differential to go bad(it was used, but worked for 1 winter) to go bad?
HubbardRA Posted May 5, 2006 Posted May 5, 2006 The diff in my 61 Wards still wanted to slip a lot, even when the bolts were torqued. I eventually replaced it with one of the newer limited slip units. I like them much better. To do this, you need the axle, right hub and diff from a newer unit. On these, if there is still too much slippage, they can be shimmed to increase friction. I have one that was done that way.
landlord2110 Posted May 11, 2006 Author Posted May 11, 2006 well, my new mechanic decided to weld shaft to diff.(second time its been welded and didnt hold). he says the diff. is a poor design with 2 set screws are screwed against a nylon or brass sleeve and eventually it has to slip when it gets tightened to much and the screws go threw the sleeve and into axle itself. My question is why my first landlord 2110 has been my dads brand new and now I have it and no problems with diff. since it was new. It has mowed acres of lawn, tilled acres of garden, and a lot of snow plowing? Is there 2 designs in the diff. in the same landlord 2110?

landlord2110 Posted May 14, 2006 Author Posted May 14, 2006 update: had diff welded and still spun in the yard while mowing uphill & turning. It makes the tractor useless for doing gardens and plowing snow(just spins). I lifted rear tires on both my landlords.with left tire on ground, right in air, in any gear the good tractor tires has some play but doesnt spin, bad tractor didnt spin. in nuetral, good tractor spins freely and bad tractor doesnt spin. with both rear tractors tires off the ground in any gear, good tractor each tire spun in opposite direction of other side and bad tractor both tires spun in same direction. in nuetral, good tractor spins in oposite direction. bad tractor spins in same direction. from all this, I realize its the weld on the bad tractor that causes wheel to spin in same direction. should I just find the newre diff that HubbardRA suggest? If thats my only solution, what models would fit on my landlord 2110?
HubbardRA Posted May 14, 2006 Posted May 14, 2006 Roy, Any of the newer models from 70s thru 90s will fit if you get the diff and axle, including right hub. These have the left side hub welded to the axle. I changed all these parts, because I broke a left side hub. All you really have to change is the diff, because the friction is caused by the spring loading of the gears within the diff. By-the-way, a locked diff will always spin one wheel in a really sharp turn. I had this problem with my 716H when I assembled the diff with some spacers in the wrong place that locked it.
