SmilinSam Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 Everything is done but the muffler and wiring. Question on the wiring.... This engine was equipped with its own onboard keyswitch and self contained wiring harness and starter solenoid. There is no "mag" wire connection at the switch o kill the engine. All there is is a wire that gets power to open a fuel shut off solenoid. Is it reasonable to assume that they did not wire this up to be shut off with the traditional killl wire to the ignition, but rather simply kill the engine with the fuels shut off solenoid that closes when the key is turned off?
Al Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 Sam, I am going to send you 2 flanges tomorrow, The ones I thought I had were the wrong dimension. Regarding the wiring, If you pull the shroud off is there a white wire on the 2 ignition modules? If so where does it go? Al Eden
SmilinSam Posted May 1, 2006 Author Posted May 1, 2006 I'll have the boy look into where the wires go. I looked without removing the shoud and couldnt see where they went anywhere. I found that the keyswitch on it had no ground tab or kill tab. 3 of the 4 tabs are energized in the on position and the 4th is energized in the start position.
HubbardRA Posted May 1, 2006 Posted May 1, 2006 Sam, This may be set up with the fuel shutoff being the kill. That way fuel is never left in the carb to varnish up the jets. Even though my generator has an ignition kill, the instructions say to shut off the fuel and let it run till it stops. It has a manual fuel shut off.
2burning Posted May 1, 2006 Posted May 1, 2006 Does this help? The white kill wire is supposed to be at the top of the 5 wire plug... Oh, and the gas solenoid works at the main jet, so it would shut off leaving fuel in the bowl ready for the next startup. Isn't it there for backfire and runon at shutdown? I don't know if the idle circuit goes through the main jet too or not though, then you would definetly have shutdown. I suppose those who have had one fail or not hooked up the wire would know that for sure!
HubbardRA Posted May 1, 2006 Posted May 1, 2006 The electric shutoff does several things. It stops the backfire at shutoff. It prevents an engine from dieseling when ignition is cut off. It totally shuts off fuel, and eliminates the need for a manual cutoff. If the ignition is not cutoff first, it will block the fuel flow and all fuel will be furned that is in the area of the main jet, thus preventing the jet from getting a varnish buildup. It seems like my newest hobby has become pulling fixed-jet carbs off of engines to clean out the hole in the main jet. So far I have only done my generator and rototiller recently. Pumper carb on the tiller, and I forgot to shut off fuel and burn the fuel out of carb on the generator. I just turned off the ignition.
SmilinSam Posted May 1, 2006 Author Posted May 1, 2006 OK heres the poop.. Both white mag wires connect to the low oil pressure shut off switch, and thats all they connect to. So it is with the fuel shut off solenoid that the engine is shut down with the key. We just extended the wires to the keyswitch position on the tractor and sliced in the amp guage, safeties and circuit breaker. Now its a matter of building a muffler and heat shielding.
