ct918h Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 I am new to the site but will now frequent due to all the available information. I have a 918H Agco Allis with a 48" deck, I replaced the blades a few years back with Gator blades. I now am concerned that with the drop down design of the blades (even the originals), along with the lack of height adjustment, I cannot get the height I want (4"). I am inquiring about replacement blades that do not have that "shoulder drop" in them which will give me another 1/2" and what hole size I have... I remember it being around 1". The dealer here showed me some blades that were 3/4" hole and he ran them directly over the splines!!! Should I remove my bushings and do this??
HubbardRA Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 I am not familiar with the deck that has splines for blades. If I do remember correctly, none of the decks will cut at a 4 inch height. My 48 inch deck cuts much closer, but that is what I want for my lawn. I was thinking that 3 1/2 was about as high as you could get, even with the straight blades.
ct918h Posted May 3, 2006 Author Posted May 3, 2006 I have already actually altered the height by 1/2 by drilling and tapping new holes in the lower arm adjustment for the back rollers... The splines are inside of the bushing that goes into the center hole of the blade, my dealer here says some folk remove the bushing and run the 3/4" ID blades? Sound stupid to me but I'm not the expert..
UCD Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 The OEM MFG# for the mower blades for a 1986 - 2000 up 48" deck is 1679916. 1979-1985 is MFG# 1656143.
Ronald Hribar Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 You may be able to gain some cutting height by making sure tires have correct air pressure. I have also altered mounts so mower deck has more clearance front and rear of deck.
ct918h Posted May 3, 2006 Author Posted May 3, 2006 Just looking at the operators manual on the Simplicity site and they state a blade # of 1679916... What is different from 1679917 (besides one number). Is this blade flat or does it have a hump?
ct918h Posted May 3, 2006 Author Posted May 3, 2006 Does anyone have a comment regarding the use of a "flat" blade versus a dropped shouldered type? The Gators I have are shouldered but I would like to find and use flat ones with a 1" hole... Does anyone know where these can be found?
Roy Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 I use flat blades on my Sovereign 42" deck. Have a higher cut, less blow back from the deck, and vacuum/grass lift-up that is not as good as with the original gull wing blades. My flat blades mount directly over the splined arbor shafts. Not a problem as long as the blades do not get loose and "spin" on the spline.
