Was looking at a web site about garden tractor pulling and ran across this information about using E85 gasoline. The site is 95% Kohler related, but the general information should be of interest to anybody wanting to try E85. Here is the web site address. You need to scrol down a bit but the E85 is well marked. http://members.aol.com/pullingtractor/carbfuel.htm#E-85 The site has some very good info even if you don't want to build a puller. Good tips you can use to make your everyday rig run a bit stronger. Ken

Just remember that this guy is talking about methanol primarily. Ethanol is a little bit different animal, although quite similar. The one important thing to get from this article is that many tractor pullers already use methanol as their fuel in these engines. The carbs are usually within adjustment range, or easily modified to be. Alcohol runs cooler. You may need to put just a little oil in the fuel to prevent engine wear. Bad thing is that it takes approximately twice as much alcohol(by volume) as it does gasoline. In other words, two gallons of alcohol to equal one gallon of gasoline. You get a cleaner, and renewable fuel, but your fuel economy is cut in half. This can hit heavy in the wallet. Most important thing is it works in our old iron!!!!! EPA and the boxstore tractor makers would like to send all of our machines to the scrap pile in favor of newer, "greener", engines. SimpleTrACtors scores another while EPA strikes out!!
