dads707 Posted May 11, 2006 Posted May 11, 2006 While I was adjusting the variator on my 6216. noticed some material lying where the brake band is. Oops, it is the brake lining!! No wonder the brake didn't work. That was next on the list anyway. Now to vent. WHAT WERE THEY THINKING!!!! There is probably a better way. but I ended up taking out every bolt in the back of that thing to get the brake band off. This thing is NOT simple to work on. Oh, the brake band is just 52 bucks. It really needs a drum also, but at 65 bucks it will have to make do. What thickness is the lining?? I will take it to Clutch and Brake Shop tomorrow.
RayS Posted May 11, 2006 Posted May 11, 2006 That`s whats nice about the large frame tractors, the seat pan will lift up so that you can access everything. You might want to check ebay there was one on there that was being parted out.
firefoxz1 Posted May 12, 2006 Posted May 12, 2006 I should be picking up a 6216 for parts in the next week or two if you can wait. Waiting to combine trips.
dads707 Posted May 13, 2006 Author Posted May 13, 2006 I took the brake band to a local shop and they bonded a lining on it. 20 bucks. Not too bad. plus I did not have to use rivets!! Not as bad as I thought going back together, just had to use drift punches to line up the bolt holes. Also put a set of lugs on it just to see what it would look like. (I know, pics coming when I get the camera out there.) I am still going to be on the lookout for a brake drum, mine was grooved out some.. Keep me in mind, Tom. Thanks.
RayS Posted May 13, 2006 Posted May 13, 2006 I wonder if they could reline a clutch plate assembly on a cone clutch? Was the place a national chain?
dads707 Posted May 13, 2006 Author Posted May 13, 2006 I will ask Mon. They are a family owned company that has been in business for years. The man I talked to said they had the business for some big trucking around here (ET&WNC I think) and were taking in BIG bucks while that lasted. What model is your tractor so I can get a pic of the cone clutch? I have never owned a tractor with one so I don't even know what one looks like..
dads707 Posted May 13, 2006 Author Posted May 13, 2006 Are they still available? I found pn. 174862 from a 7012 and it shows a decal.
RayS Posted May 14, 2006 Posted May 14, 2006 Thanks Dennis, I called NAPA and another local auto parts supplier and they both told me that they could get me brake lining in a roll.
Simplicity314 Posted May 14, 2006 Posted May 14, 2006 Ray...a machine shop should be able to point you in the right direction...I know a few guys who have power kings have sent out the clutches to get relined through a machine shop.
