A-C 416 charging problem (update)

I have been getting my tractor fixed up little by little and finally mowed the lawn with it today but it still don't charge. Are there any common problems that I should check for first? It has a new battery and starts and runs fine.

Easiest thing to check is all the wiring connections, look for loose or corroded connections, chafed wires, etc.Does that one use a starter/generator?

First check that you have 12 volts from the ignition switch in the run position to the rectifier. If yes then unplug the harness from the stator to regulator/rectifier. Start engine & run at full throttle & check for (AC) voltage accross the other 2 leads, usually white. You should have 25-40 volts AC If you do not it is the stator assembly. If you do it is the regulator/rectifier. Check for corrosion on the plug & rectifier assembly to be sure there is good contact. Hope this gives you some input. Stan

I finally got around to ordering a new rectifier/regulator. My free tractor is up to just under $150 but still a good deal. See it mow below :) http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v66/onemorecast/?action=view¤t=mowingMPG.flv
