Tarytoons Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 I hope this meets the criteria for this section..... I am trying to find out if Simplicity ever made a front tine rototiller with a 3.5 hp engine....maybe sometime in the late '50's??? I have one that I inherited from my grandfather and I want to find information on it. If anybody can help I would sure appreciate it. :D
ka9bxg Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 I have one but it is from the 60"s I need to find the seril # on it so I can get a manual. This tiller has a reverse on it but someone has changed the linkage and I would like to put it back to orinigal.Bob
dirtsaver Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 Welcome to the club neighbor! Simplicity started out manufacturing "walking tractors" or "two-wheeled garden tractors" that accepted many implements, including a tiller attatchment. The engine sizes varied from 2 to 7 or 9hp. These units had larger tires and were "self-propelled", some even with 5-spd transmissions. Go to Simple Tractors on the menu at the top of this page and follow the drop-down menu to "walkers", follow that link and see if that is what you have. If not, yours is a more modern unit made in the 1960's. If that's the case, let me know and I'll do some research at the shop and see what info I can come up with. And if you ever get across the river around Bedford Ky look me up!
Kent Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 In addition to te "walking tractors" Simplicity also made front-tine rototillers called Roticuls. Try going to the Tech Manual Search (on the top right side of Club Home page or on the lower left side of any Simple trACtors page) and search for MFR No 990107 (a 3 HP Roticul) or 990107 (a 4 HP Super Roticul) both from 1961... There's also 990411 (5 HP), 990360 (4 HP) and 990336 (3 HP) from 1967... That's the only MFR numbers for Roticuls I could come up with quickly, and none are for a 3.5 HP...
Tarytoons Posted May 18, 2006 Author Posted May 18, 2006 Thanks for the help... Kent, the Roticul is REALLY close; the gear/tine assembly looks identical, but there are minor differences with the frame going to the drag bar and the tensioner for the belt. And Larry, if I ever get over to your side of the river I will definitely look you up.
