Greenhorn Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 The PTO stopped working after I hooked up the tiller. (The tiller appears to be jammed but I haven't gotten to that yet.) I took the tiller back off but still no PTO. Pulled the top cover to check to the clutch and this is what I found. The gap is about 1/2 inch. The shaft rotates when the motor is runing and the receiver turns easily when I turn the hub. I cannot see how this could seperate. Did something break/What am I missing? Any ideas? All help greatly appreciated. After posting this I went back to the shop manual for the umpteenth time and I figure the capscrew that holds the collar and clutch plate to the shaft must have came loose or broken (hopefully came lose). Will check tomorrow.
D-17_Dave Posted May 17, 2006 Posted May 17, 2006 I think the small screws that hold the inner bearing in place and mount the field coil would be OK since there is no load on them. I suspect the key may have sheared out and let the capscrew unscrew allowing the shaft to slide forward on the splines at the engine. Hope it's not too bad.
