need some advice on Simplicity legacy mower

Been shopping for a mower/tractor and have ran across a 2005? legacy mower/tractor with a 48" deck and a 20 hp engine. I didnt get the engine code but did get thes numbers of the deck. mfg 1692843 serial 60682 pk 1693247. After I was at the dealer I found out their is also a tractor id number but didnt get it. My question is what can be added to this mower/tractor? Is the 20hp a reliable engine? Is $4500 a good price for this unit wit 67 hours on the meter?

Are you sure this is a 2005 Legacy? I have a 2005, and all three available engines were 27 hp.

I would have to agree with 'FiremanRon'. Any brochures that I've seen for 2005 Legacy's show them with 27 horse engines. What is the manufacturing number on the tractor itself? A few things you might want to check for are: Does it have a 3 point hitch attached? What kind of rear PTO does it have? (540 RPM, or 2000 RPM). If memory serves me right, I believe the 2005 had 540 rpm, (someone else correct me if I'm wrong). The advantage to the 540 RPM PTO is that it is easier to find generic attachments such as tillers...and they cost a lot less too. Just a few things to mill around in the ol' thinking cap.:) Gord

Thanks for the input. I went to another dealer in my area and he confirmed what everyone been telling me. The Legacy was out of production in 03 and this may have been one that was left over. it is not an XL . The dealer I went to today only had one XL it was 4x4 27 hp gas 60" deck,with front bucket. 11500 was the price tag. he also had a prestige 23 hp 54" deck for 5700. It was a nice tractor. If one had to choose between the 2003 20 hp legacy ($4500) or the prestige which one would one pick. The legacy has no additional attachemnts or points and it does have a high low lever. I dont know much else on it. I did notice after reading the parts manual though that it would take a little effort to to add some additional PTO or Hydraulic accessories

I would go with the legacy its a heavier tractor and I like the horizontal engine and shaft drive. Price is good and the engine is great.
