Hello,It's been awhile since I have visited the site, but I finished my 725 with everyones help. I just got a 4040 that I have been working on,fixing oil leaks and other stuff. I saw in the manual that it calls for automotive transmission fluid in the trans.,but when I drained the old oil out it looked like a light weight motor oil.I went to the local parts house and he recommended a light weight hydraulic oil that he sold. Can anyone tell me what is the best oil to use. Thanks for your help, when I get my camera set up I will post pics of the 725&4040. Thanks again

Your 4040 has a Sunstrand model 15 Hydro/ Simplicity transaxle. It takes type A, F, or Dextron automatic transmission fluid ( 6 quarts ) check level on the right rear side of the trans. Filter is Sim # 1650954. The drop housings on each side take SAE 90 gear oil Good luck Paul
