Roy Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 Attached pictures of of the patches I put on the mower deck for my 7013S. Welds are buck ugly but I did OK forming the patches to fit the deck shell contours. These three photos are of the two patches at the discharge side. This is the patch on the right front. Note that the previous owner's weld repairs are also buck ugly. Wish I could have done better. All today,
dads707 Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 I also need to take a welding class. At least yours stick, Roy!!!
HubbardRA Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 Acetylene, brazing rod, file, and sandpaper.;) You have the time.:D
Roy Posted May 25, 2006 Author Posted May 25, 2006 Gang, I used +DC at 90 amps with a 1/8" electrode/rod on this. It was more for welding practice than anything else. Patches are firmly attached without any burn through holes but welds are not pretty. :( Thanks,
HubbardRA Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 Roy, It looks better than the last one I did with AC, 110 amp, and 1/8 inch rod. You did a nice job. Be proud of it. It should last as long as the rest of the deck will.
Wishin2BMowin Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 Doesn't matter if it looks pretty...long as it mows the lawn!!! I tried welding my truck tailgate for about five minutes. After blowing holes and making a BIG mess of it I called my buddy who welds. My trouble is seeing thru that welding mask to get started. Guess I need to invest in one of those new masks that do auto-dark???
comet66 Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 Hey Roy, don't let it bother you. "Function before Form" I always say! I love my auto dark hood.
shanhamm Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 bondo fixes everything, i would need a five gallon pail of it, if i tried what you did, cauze i can't weld for nothing. it does look good though!

Hey Roy, just remember what Red Green would have said: And men, remember, if the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy. or better yet There are two kinds of people: those who do things and those who write manuals. Looks good here if it adds to the life of the deck! As my wife reminds me, she can put up with some ugly as long as I work as I am suppsed to. 8
Roy Posted May 25, 2006 Author Posted May 25, 2006 Thanks gang. I feel better. :) John, my auto-dark helmet is my salvation when arc welding. Best part is I got it on sale from HF for $25. :D
maxtorman1234 Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 I welded up our 48" deck for the 917 during my welding class at school, I used the mig welder and it turned out pretty good, we bent patches to fit, and its rock solid now, At least I learned something at school:)
dcw06 Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 Dont worry about the ugly as long as it holds together! You just added years to the deck!
