Al Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 Hi, We send Sam some exhaust flanges on 5-2-06 using the US Post Office. SNAIL MAIL!!!!!!!!!! We almost always ship UPS, because it is fast, reliable, and you can track it and they pick up at our place every day. We do have to pay a weekly fee for them to stop even though we send a lot oh packages and like like a ship center for the general public. Also we don't have to pay someone drive to the Post Office to send them. These flanges were small and dropped in a bubble pack envelope. I was going across town and swung by the PO and dropped them off. Thought I might save him a couple of bucks. Tue he still hadn't received them, so I sent another set Wed UPS picked up at 4:30. Sam got the first set Thur and the second set today. Lesson learned. Sam, now you can get another engine and build a V4. I know now why my office mgr Joann said why do you want to mess with the mail. Just goes to show you get what you pay for. Good thing he didn't need these to mow with. Al Eden
RayS Posted May 27, 2006 Posted May 27, 2006 Did you ship parcel post? I have sent stuff parcel post that took 2-3 weeks to arrive while priority usually 2-5 days for a little more.
KSever Posted May 27, 2006 Posted May 27, 2006 I sent a Marine Corp flag parcel post about 5 years ago to my father inlaw. This was when I lived in Milwaukee and it only had to go to LaCrosse, WI and to this day it has never arrived. They can't say it was my writing on the envelope because I typed it on the computer including the bar code address.
SmilinSam Posted May 27, 2006 Posted May 27, 2006 Al, just give me the bill for the UPS set with the shipping and I'll buy both sets. That way neither one of us is out anything. I'll use them up sooner or later. I have a Single cylinder command that I can use one of them on pretty soon if i put it in a piece of equipment the other boy is monkeying around with. I already sent you an e-mail to this effect. If you dont send a bill for the UPS set I'll just send double the amount of the first set billed and add a few bucks more for the UPS shipping difference.
Al Posted May 27, 2006 Author Posted May 27, 2006 Sam, Just send the smount the second set of flanges were and the first bill, I will absorb the UPS. Meant to answer your e-mail before now. I consider this tuition in the school of life. I learned something. Not your falt. Al
oldone Posted May 27, 2006 Posted May 27, 2006 I still have a money order out there in postal land for a C-note from last September. its seems they don't care about your money! John
SmilinSam Posted May 28, 2006 Posted May 28, 2006 Sorry Al, You will be getting the full amount. You treat otheres right and you deserve the same no less. Check will be in the mail Tuesday, or maybe I should send it DHL so it gets there by July 4th hloiday.:D I know a guy who works maintinance on the postal distribution line in central Illinois and he talks of all the mail they find ground up under the handling and sorting machines. Not encouraging to say the least.
Marty-MN Posted May 28, 2006 Posted May 28, 2006 We ship and receive fragile parts and have found airborne and post office worst but UPS not perfect by any means.
maxtorman1234 Posted May 28, 2006 Posted May 28, 2006 I hate shipping motors by UPS it seems they go out of their way to damage them. Im not too woried since theyre insured. Im stuck with them though. For smaller packages Post office has always been pretty good, sometimes its slow, but people who buy from me arent willing to pay extra for shipping.
Al Posted May 28, 2006 Author Posted May 28, 2006 Hi, I agree, non of our distributors use UPS for engines. any more. After UPS started taking over 60 lbs after the strike some distributors tried it. In boxed over 60 lbs they can wreck a wrecking bar. I don't think we ever received and engine that wasn't damaged in the box. Air cleaners bent or something. It looks like they don't care if they stay right side up and maybe roll them out of the trucks or something. Then they always say it is inadequate packaging. Now all of our larger engines come on a pallet motor freight and almost always damage free. Granted the only people that don't make mistakes are people that don't do anything, but on engines there eraser is wearing out before the pencil. We often get calls for parts and people ask us to use the PO. Since we have UPS in every day and have to pay someone to go to the PO, we just use UPS. Thought I would try the mail once on Sam's package because it was small and this is where this an easy thing to do as I was going by the PO. I now see added value in the tracking system. Fortunatly these were inexpensive parts. Al Eden
328 Posted May 28, 2006 Posted May 28, 2006 I have great luck with DHL. They are always on time. And all my packages are in good condition. If I order parts by 2 pm, they will usally arrive the next day.
Ronald Hribar Posted May 28, 2006 Posted May 28, 2006 I have many items shipped to me from all over the country. The only good results that I get are from UPS . But the other day I was checking on a shipment. UPS tracking said it arrived, but they delivered it two days later. Sometimes my UPS red arrives after my regular UPS. But that is far better than Fed EX or DHL or any of the air freight delivery services.
2burning Posted May 28, 2006 Posted May 28, 2006 I was drinving by the post office last week and at the back dock someone was dumping a mail bin full of mail into the garbage dumpster :> I remember last year following a US Mail truck with its rear roll up door bouncing up and down with every bump and wondering how close the mail was to falling out. Thanks for that heads up on UPS and >60lb, I have read rumors before but will definitely avoid them for that now.
