Are these prone to fuel leaking past the pump just from the hydrostatic pressure of a full tank? I can't tell if that's what is happening or not. It's on a 712, so there is no fuel shut off on the tank. If I were to put one, where do you get the metal ones that would mount in the side panel?

I had problems with two different Kohler engines. They would get so that they didn't want to start, or wouldn't run good. I would have to pull the rubber fuel line off of the carb, and hold it down toward the ground till I got full fuel flow, then put it back on the carb. It sort of acted like vapor lock in the fuel system. I no longer run a fuel pump, either, gravity flow is more reliable. Of course, on the only tractor that I currently have with a Kohler, the engine will run out of fuel with about 1 1/2 inches of fuel in the tank because bottom of tank is lower than fuel bowl of carb. Get the brass valves at a hardware store. The one I have on my 61 Wards is a 1/4 turn brass unit like the ones used on small natural gas stoves. I bought the pipe thread to fuel line adapters at an auto parts store.
