gokartjon Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 I was directed at another forum to post my question here. I recently purchased a SunRunner (12FCH) that has some wiring problems (mice got into it). I am almost done fixing the wiring, but I have a few wires that I am unsure about. I planned on having the local Simplicity dealer run off a wiring diagram, but all they have is a “pictoral” diagram. Any suggestion on where I can get a schematic? Thanks, Jon
Kent Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 The owner's manual or parts manual will likely have a wiring diagram. Get the MFR number off the ID plate on the machine and use the Search for Manuals at Simplicity Mfg form on either the Club Home page from the menu above, or any page on Simple trACtors. YOu can download the manuals for free...
gokartjon Posted June 2, 2006 Author Posted June 2, 2006 That is part of the problem. They have a parts manual with a "pictoral" diagram. Which is basically just an illustration of the harness. No schematics, no color coding. Not good for what I need. I am going to try and call Simplicity, but not sure if that will help. The dealer said this is common with some of the equipment from that stretch. He didn't have any other advice for me. I was hoping someone might have a diagram. Thank, Jon
Kent Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 We have a few members who own these. Just be patient and they'll likely respond.
gokartjon Posted June 2, 2006 Author Posted June 2, 2006 Thanks!!!! This is really going to help me out. I called Simplicity, and they wanted me to buy the $40.00 manual. Which I probably will once I am sure it runs. I'll post a follow up after I get the wiring fixed. Thanks again, Jon
UCD Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 That in it self is worth the $10.00 membership fee. There is also a way to download the repair manual free.
gokartjon Posted June 2, 2006 Author Posted June 2, 2006 How can you downmload the repair manual for free?
HubbardRA Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 Jon, Go to SimpleTrACtors, or the club home page. Find this picture and type in your manufacturers number. (This picture courtesy of Clyde. I stole it from his post.:D:D)
sunrunner Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 Hello - I own a '87 SunRunner 12hp hydro - If I can be of any help Please ask - Thanks Chris
gokartjon Posted June 7, 2006 Author Posted June 7, 2006 First off, to UCD, thanks for the wiring diagrams. I got the wiring harness all straightened out. I have now found that it needs an ignition coil. My guess is the previous owner wired it incorrectly and shorted it out. I’ll let everyone know what happens. To anyone that owns a SunRunner I have a few questions before I go sticking too much money into it. Is this a quality machine worth sticking money into? Or a cheaper model Simplicity offered? Is the 12 hp Briggs IC a good motor? Is it powerful enough? Is the transmission setup on these good? It all appears to be good quality. What is the turning radius? What is the quality of the cut? Are parts still readily available? I thought I got a good deal on it ($75.00), but I had a few people tell me they wouldn’t have taken it for free. It appears to have few hours on it. The underside of the desk is very clean. There is some paint pealing, but my guess is that is from sitting outside more than anything. The guy I bought it from never had it running. Said he paid an older gentleman $450.00 for it with the wiring problem. He just couldn’t figure it out. I currently have a Wheel Horse 312H. The deck is going out on it. And, instead of putting a bunch of money into a new deck I figure I would go with something different. Something that turns a little tighter. That old Wheel Horse must have at least a 5 foot turning radius. I inherited a small Ford CUT, so I don’t need a garden tractor, just something to mow with. My yard is fairly small (about 1 acre) so I don’t need a large commercial mower. I just want to make sure I make the right decisions. There isn’t much info available about these SunRunners. Thanks again, Jon
sunrunner Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 First - How is the layout of your property? This mower is not the best on steep hills - but it will do a hill - make sure you have good tread and run the air pressure alittle soft in front for better traction - 2nd - the 12hp does fine for my 4ish acres of lawn, hills and all - no problems with my tranny - Turning radius is almost zero, why - the older style 4" rears tend to stick/lock when you steer to the maximum - The cut as far as I am concerned is great/nice lines - I get most of my parts from SEPW.com - The hydro lever can be adjusted as per the manual - I did buy a 6216 as I sometimes run low on time to cut the grass and this mows much faster/plus a tiller and snowthrower and grader - you can see my pics in show and tell under - "just wanted to say hello" - Chris
