Boney Posted June 3, 2006 Posted June 3, 2006 With a model #19 motor next week I am having the cylinder measured and the valves done. I have to remove the valves. My question is, is it nessecary to get a special valve spring compressor to remove them ? If a valve spring compressor is needed any suggestions as to a good one? It is my understanding that the exhaust valve is cut to 45 degrees and the intake is either 45 or 30 degrees. Does anyone know which the model 19 is on the intake 45 or 30 ? I have not been able to find it looking in the Repair Manual. Thnx a bunch for any help sorry for the "mechanically challenge" questions.
jlasater Posted June 3, 2006 Posted June 3, 2006 You need one of these: http://www.mytoolstore.com/kd/kdengi13.html , bottom of the page, KD 379. NAPA carries them as well.
patrician12 Posted June 3, 2006 Posted June 3, 2006 I find it easier with the c type. The ones that KD make are much too big.Stens and NAPA sell a small one for our engines. The other item I find essential is a magnetic valve retainer tool. This will save you alot of cussin'.
maxtorman1234 Posted June 3, 2006 Posted June 3, 2006 I agree, but I just use a small dab of grease to hold the retainers in place, it cant hurt anything.
